Boliden’s R&D program in artificial intelligence drives initiatives in AI and machine learning for process control and mine automation applications. Boliden Edge Lab is the AI program’s initiative to address this challenge for Boliden Mines. We investigate AI-based security monitoring in next-generation networks, aiming to make alerts both understandable and actionable. Our research focuses on explainability, studying logic-based and statistical XAI to expose strengths and trade-offs with a purpose of finding relevant (minimal) explanations. Beyond explaining why an alert is raised, we explore what can be done next using constrained counterfactuals to suggest plausible, feasible actions towards response and recovery.

Lund University

The RobotLab is investigating topics like robotic skill learning, robust robot vision, human-robot collaboration, robot support in surgery, support for situation awareness in shared autonomy scenarios (ground robots, marine vessels, UAV), machine learning, explainable AI, and privacy preserving AI-based software. Other projects deal with the use of AI tools in software development and their impact in software engineering, also providing insights into topics like AI regulation.

The Intelligent Systems Laboratory will present its research on improving efficiency (e.g., energy consumption) and fostering trust (i.e., safety and privacy) in artificial intelligence and federated learning, with applications spanning various domains, including healthcare.
